Stephen Ryals is a native of St. Louis who completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He went on to attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law where he received his J.D.

In addtion to his private practice, Mr. Ryals served as a part time Franklin County Public Defender and then as General Counsel of the American Civil liberties Union of Eastern Missouri. Mr. Ryals has been operating his own firm or as a partner in the firm for the last 29 years. Today, his main area of practice is civil rights violations.

While serving as an attorney, he was an adjunct professor at Washington University in St. Louis, School of Law for 4 years and has been teaching as an adjunct professor at St. Louis University School of Law for the past 13 years. He has given continuing legal education presentations on various civil rights topics across the country and for The Missouri Bar.

Mr. Ryals is also the author of Discovery and Proof in Police Misconduct Cases and has written or co-authored a few articles in the Police Liability Review and Urban Lawyer. He is a member of the Missouri Bar, The National Lawyer's Guild, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and participates in various community activities.
